Review:

Great anthology! I really enjoyed the stories: “Tough Times All Over” by Joe Abercrombie – A Red Country story, “The Meaning of Love” by Daniel Abraham, and “How the Marquis Got His Coat Back” by Neil Gaiman . Then there were the amazing stories: “A Year and a Day in Old Theradane” by Scott Lynch, and “The Lightning Tree” by Patrick Rothfuss – A Kingkiller Chronicle story, truly great shorts by fantastic authors.

The main reason behind getting this book was a “The Rogue Prince, or, A King’s Brother” by George R.R. Martin – A Song of Ice and Fire story.

It is set in Westeros of Martin’s ASOIAF series, hundreds of years before the events of GOT, during the reign of King Viserys I Targaryen. This story serves as a prequel to Martin’s 2013 novella “The Princess and the Queen” and focuses on the role played by the king’s brother, Prince Daemon Targaryen. Spanning the entire reign of Viserys I, from his grandfather Jaehaerys I Targaryen’s death to his own. This short chronicles the evolving relationship between Viserys and Daemon as the king’s plan for succession cements a rivalry within the family that plays out in “The Princess and the Queen”. The work is presented as the writing of the fictional Archmaester Gyldayn. Another great little story to hold us over in our wait for another book.

Great collection of stories, I highly recommend!
