My review today is for Steelheart (Reckoners Book 1) by
Ever since I read The Stormlight Archive series first two books, Brandon Sanderson has become one of my favorite authors. I am now on a mission to read everything he has written. That led me to this book. I was apprehensive about reading this YA book. I like my books dark for the most part. The book description didn’t ease my fears any. It did not really sound like my kind of book, but it is Brandon Sanderson so I have to read it, Right? I am very glad I did! The author proves to me once again that everything he writes is fantastic, and I should not worry about it being YA or the book description not sounding like (my kind of book).
The book follows David who is after revenge for his fathers death at the hands of Steelheart a powerful Epic (superpowered villain). He runs across the Reckoners a group fighting back against the tyranny of the Epic’s. Can they work together to achieve David’s credo?
“I’ve seen Steelheart bleed.
And I will see him bleed again.”
I ended up really liking this book. Right out of the gate I was invested in the characters and the story. The author has a way of drawing you into the book, almost like you are in the book yourself. Like all Brandon Sanderson books it has an amazing magic system or in this case superpowers. The worldbuilding is another specialty and you truly get a sense of what it is like to be in this world ruled by the Epic’s. Mr. Sanderson is nothing short of an outstanding writer. Overall this is another fantastic Brandon Sanderson book. You really can’t go wrong with anything he writes.
As you know if you have read my reviews before I am not about long reviews with synopsis and spoilers. I just give my opinion on my experience with this book and you can take it from there. Now on to the next book.

Brandon Sanderson was born in 1975 in Lincoln, Nebraska. As a child Brandon enjoyed reading, but he lost interest in the types of titles often suggested to him, and by junior high he never cracked a book if he could help it. This changed when an eighth grade teacher gave him Dragonsbane by Barbara Hambly.
Brandon was working on his thirteenth novel when Moshe Feder at Tor Books bought the sixth he had written. Tor has published Elantris , the Mistborn trilogy and its followup The Alloy of Law , Warbreaker , and The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance , the first two in the planned ten-volume series The Stormlight Archive. He was chosen to complete Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series; 2009’s The Gathering Storm and 2010’sTowers of Midnight were followed by the final book in the series, A Memory of Light , in January 2013. Four books in his middle-grade Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians series were released by Scholastic, and his novella Infinity Blade Awakening was an ebook bestseller for Epic Games accompanying their acclaimedInfinity Blade iOS video game series. Two more novellas, Legion and The Emperor s Soul , were released by Subterranean Press and Tachyon Publications in 2012, and 2013 brings two young adult novels, The Rithmatist from Tor and Steelheart from Delacorte.
The only author to make the short list for the David Gemmell Legend Award six times in four years, Brandon won that award in 2011 for The Way of Kings. The Emperor’s Soul won the 2013 Hugo Award for Best Novella. He has appeared on the New York Times Best-Seller List multiple times, with five novels hitting the #1 spot.
Currently living in Utah with his wife and children, Brandon teaches creative writing at Brigham Young University.
