I have been adding many new books to my collection recently. My interest in reading has shifted to older books and authors. So I thought instead of just a simple book haul post I would do more of a spotlight/introduction post as well. So in the post below you will not only find the usual book haul photo’s, but book and author info as well. I hope you will take the time to look it over and maybe take a chance at checking out books and authors that you may have forgot about or discover in these post!

I found this book at my favorite local used book store. My all time favorite author is Robert E. Howard. Can’t wait to read about the man himself. Excited to add this to my collection.

Today we have:

Blood and Thunder: The Life and Art of Robert E. Howard

by Mark Finn

Robert E. Howard, creator of Conan, King Kull, and others that defined heroic fantasy, lived and died in the small town of Cross Plains, Texas. While his books remain in print, Howard himself has fallen into obscurity, his life mired in speculation and half-truth. This engaging biography traces the roots of his writings, correcting long-standing misconceptions, and offers a tour of Howard’s world as he saw it: through his own incomparable imagination.

Mark Finn is an author, actor, essayist, and pop culture critic. He is a nationally-recognized authority on the Texas author Robert E. Howard and has written extensively about him. His biography, Blood and Thunder: The Life and Art of Robert E. Howard, was nominated for a World Fantasy award in 2007 and is currently available in an updated and expanded second edition.

His articles, essays, reviews, short stories and comics have been published by Playboy.com, RevolutionSF.com, Dark Horse Comics, DC/Vertigo Comics, Monkeybrain Books, The University of Texas press, Greenwood Press, Scarecrow Press, F.A.C.T. Publications, Tachyon Press and others.

For the past three years, Finn was named one of the top movie critics in Texas by the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors awards. Currently he is a managing editor for Skelos Press and a writer-at-large for Cloak and Dagger Productions.

He lives in North Texas, over an old movie theater that he owns and operates, along with his long-suffering wife, far too many books, and an affable pit bull named Sonya.
